Each group will designate an Editor, Publisher, and Researcher.

Responsibilities:

Viruses Format:
1. Virus Life Cycle

  • Lysogenic and lytic

2. Three examples of a Virus in organisms

  • Tobacco Mosaic Virus
  • Citrus Psorosis Virus
  • Tulip Breaking Virus

3. Genus species name of organism infected

Citrus Psorosis Virus
  • Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osb.)
  • Sour orange (C. aurantium L.)
  • Lemon (C. limon (L.) Burn. f.)
  • Grapefruit (C. paradisi Macf.)
  • Clementine (C. clementina Hort. ex Tan.)
  • Satsuma (C. unshiu (Macf.) Marc.)
  • Fortune mandarin (C. clementina x C. tangerina Hort. ex Tan.)
  • Ortanique tangor (C. reticulata Blanco x C. sinensis)

5. Effects of virus on organism

Citrus psorosis virus
  • Bark Scaling (bulging and breaking) and Internal Staining
    • Trunk and Limbs
  • Form A
    • More passive
    • Restricted to main trunk
    • May show some spots in younger leaves
    • Older leaves relatively unaffected
    • Takes place at 10 - 15 years of age

  • Form B
    • Aggressive form
    • Same symptoms but also extensive bark scaling and chlorotic blotches
    • It can also cause leaf drop and shoot necrosis (premature death of living tissue)

Tulip Breaking Virus
  • Only one main symptom
    • Weakens the tulip plant
    • Allows the leaves to display a wide variety of colors
    • Makes them highly desired because of the mix of colors the virus causes

Tobacco Mosaic Virus
  • Veinbending
  • Necrotic symptoms
    • Mosaic burn
  • Small bulging in the leaves
  • Hard to detect visually for most cases
